Holy Orders

The Sacrament of Holy Orders

“Every priest is taken from among men

and made their representative before God…

No one takes this honor upon himself

but only when called by God.”

Letter to the Hebrews 5:1, 4

A vocation is a special life-calling to serve God’s people in a uniquely personal and spiritually fulfilling way. Holy Orders offer the privilege of serving the Church as a priest or deacon. Given the special nature of this vocation, years of preparation and seminary formation are required.

The Archdiocesan website www.archny.org offers helpful information:

Religious Life

A vocation to serve the Church in religious life as a sister is possibility for women to consider; for men, there are communities to serve as a brother or priest. Many religious communities have websites offering details about their unique charism, mission, apostolates, and ministries. A helpful website to begin this consideration:

Anyone who feels that they may be interested in discussing a possible vocation to the priesthood, diaconate or religious life may speak with one of our parish priests.
